New Obsession: The Buried Life

What do you want to do before you die?

Duncan, Jonnie, Ben, and Dave

That’s the question that four Vancouver Island natives asked each other. Shortly afterwards the MTV reality series, The Buried Life, came to life.

Jonnie, Dave, Duncan, and Ben are four normal 20-somethings who were sick of their humdrum lifestyles and decided to do something amazing.

Like the show’s intro says, what would you do if you only had one more day to live? It would obviously be something epic, exciting, important, monumental, or meaningful. However, why does that change now that we know we have longer than just a day? Shouldn’t we all be a little more concerned with how we are fulfilling our dreams and goals?

Well, these Victoria boys seem to think so. So for each episode, they cross one thing off of their list of things to do before they die. And in turn, they help a fan achieve one of their goals.

The boys are hilarious, so it makes for an enjoyable half hour of television. But the fans they bring on the show usually have an emotional goal, so I tend to tear up at least once an episode too.

According to Wikipedia, MTV’s choice to air the series is a step in a new direction of reality TV, away from the Jersey Shore and Teen Mom and more into helping real people make a difference with their lives.

Though the show is filmed and edited primarily by the guys and their couple of cameramen, MTV is the distributing network. Both full seasons are available for your viewing pleasure at mtv.ca.

My personal favorites thus far are the parade episode and the “Accept a Dare” episode.

Check it out and enjoy!

UPDATE: UBC’s annual Student Leadership Conference (SLC) had the TBL guys headining as keynote speakers. If you are a UBC student, consider attending the conference in the new year and getting a chance to hear from the guys!
