Burlesque Review

All in all, folks, Burlesque gets a B- from me. Not only was the music slightly overwhelming, but the dancing just wasn’t that great. It was catchy and visually appealing but it definitely did not have the flair of Chicago or other better-known club-style musicals.

Christina was convincing as teenage country bumkin, Ally. The only part of her that wasn’t so convincing was her child-bearing hips. The girl has curves! Cam Gigandet was appealing and heartfelt as her faithfully engaged sidekick. Cher was…. Cher? Pretty typical as far as her performances went, and absolutely no acting talents. It was only in her scenes opposite the fabulous Stanley Tucci, who stole the show. This man has unbelievable talents. He has been ridiculously impressive in all of his previous work, particularly The Lovely Bones, Easy A, and The Devil Wears Prada. Eric Dane, Kristen Bell, Dianna Agron, and Julianne Hough also had bit parts, and were adequate. I didn’t necessarily feel like Kristen Bell was evil enough but hey, that’s just me.

Interesting fact: The film features a Grey’s, Gossip Girl, and Glee character! All our faves.

I would only recommend this to you if there is no Sex and the City reruns on TV that night and you’re really bored.
